caravels and churches

Today, I was working on a call for submissions by a set of eminent curators, to submit an artwork that may be selected in an art festival that will be happening on the west coast of India in December. While researching the cultural elements that will be important for artwork submissions, I looked up caravels and Baroque churches. Given below are some images that I collected as a part of the research.

What was interesting about the research rabbit hole was that I became fascinated by the art history of the Baroque period, for the first time in my life. For some reason, I have never been so fascinated by Baroque. It appeared tasteless, or too decadent.

Today, I came to know that reputed art historians like Wolfflin and Alois Riegl have contributed to the understanding of Baroque Art.

More importantly, looking at baroque art from a decolonial perspective is very important. As for method, I came across two books.
